‘Apeach’ of Kakao Friends Captivates Global MZ Fans with PeachFiv

Kakao Friends’ popular character, ‘Apeach,’ mesmerized global millennial and Gen Z fans with its short-form content, ‘PeachFiv.’

Kakao (Co-CEO: Min-Soo Yeo & Soo-Yong Cho) made an announcement on the 14th that short-form animated content ‘PeachFiv’ and its hashtag challenge videos on the official Apeach TikTok account have garnered over 170 million views.

In early April, Kakao released new short-form content, ‘PeachFiv’ on Apeach TikTok to increase engagement with millennial and Gen Z fans. The videos capturing cute and goofy daily lives of PeachFiv soon went viral amongst global fans. In just a month, the account grew by 160%, from 100,000 to 260,000 followers. Followers are from diverse countries, with 18% from Japan, 14% from the U.S., 14% from Korea, 5% from Indonesia and 5% from Vietnam.

Users are sharing videos featuring PeachFiv’s adorable moves and catchy tunes as memes. In addition, they are uploading videos of themselves as a meme as part of a hashtag challenge. This has led to a surge of total views of 170 million views. The official Apeach video used for this meme has also reached over 18.8 million views.

With the launch of PeachFiv, Kakao plans to continue experimenting with various content using Apeach character IP to increase engagement with millennial and Gen Z fans and to expand its global fandom.

Meanwhile, ‘PeachFiv’ is an animated short-form animation that show various episodes of characters APEACH, LUVPEACH and PUPEACH. Kakao added a new character, PUPEACH, to bring more fun into the mix of already established characters, APEACH and LUVPEACH. PUPEACH is the mysterious downy peach triplet, who are ‘fur (PU),’ ‘coy (PEA)’ and ‘snobbish (CHI)’. Emoticons based on the triplet will soon be launched.

“For users, it’s more than just sharing a video of PeachFiv. It’s spreading into a new culture where users voluntarily experience, interpret and appreciate PeachFiv,” an official from Kakao noted. “Using the diverse content of PeachFiv, we plan to expand from Japan to the global market,” the official said.
